Carture

2020

End of the 2rd Year Exhibition, Hamidrasha Faculty of The Arts Beit Berl College

Performative Installation

"Carture" (Cartonage) is a performative installation entirely crafted from cardboard. Every element, from costumes to paintings, was meticulously fashioned from various cardboard boxes.
Each visitor was invited upon entrance to wear a cardboard mask and slip cardboard bags over their feet, view a cardboard video art inside the cardboard “Butke” (hut), and immerse themselves in the whimsical cardboard realm.

This project started at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, during the initial lockdown period, when most interactions with the outside world occurred through product deliveries packaged in cardboard boxes. The abundance of cardboard boxes accumulating at my home inspired me to fashion outfits from them, evolving into a diverse collection of accessories, wearable items, tools,  and musical instruments. Subsequently, within the exhibition space, I created the cardboard realm where the cardboard people could roam around, performing their carton-based performance.
