G.A.A is a project based on the soviet ice cream “Plombir”.

This project began when my grandmother Grandma Gali passed away in December 2022. Grandma Gali was a seamstress, bequeathing me her sewing tools, embroidered fabrics, and other household soviet items brought with my family from the U.S.S.R in the early 90’s. Embracing my heritage, I began researching ancient Slavic symbols and Russian folklore, while learning how to sew, and consuming copious amounts of Plombir (even though I’m lactose intolerant).
Through the emotional and physical pain, I realized how the Plombir packages resembled the different ornate objects I inherited. Thus, adapting the packages into different Plombir-themed outfits and objects, paying homage to the tale of Little Red Riding Hood my grandmother used to tell me as a bedtime story in my early childhood.

G.A.A. began as a project portraying personal loss and evolved into one that addresses collective trauma. From engaging with themes related to Russia, Ukraine, and the Cold War (literally), the local Israeli reality intertwined within its themes and influenced the project. Eating and crafting Plombir became a source of solace and a means to cope with life amid a war.
